I wonder if... perhaps, rather than simply looking at what there is, and theorizing once we hear about it, it might be worth attempting to recreate some of the evidence when we investigate.

For example, if we are able to create marks like this in the sand tomorrow, we will have a much more concrete idea of how they were left, will we not?
