[She doesn't really seem to have any purpose for being in the area except to find him, so Caren is businesslike in her approach. She's doing just fine, obviously, just fine.
After a cursory check of the area for any invisible visitors, she pulls him aside.]
Ah, that look you're giving me... Thank you, it's what I wanted to see. I'll be brief. [She clasps her hands together.] I have only two requests, if you'll humor them.
Monika and her companions trust you. I believe they are the ones with the initiative to save us all. Please look out for them.
...The second is more complicated. I am thinking about something for tomorrow, but it's possible that I may not be able to end it at the hands of the person I would like.
[He wasn't going to do it for her, though. But the second request surprises him a little, even though it makes sense. To be honest, he'd liked Caren. He's disappointed in her, but he liked her. He's not crazy about her dying, but - ]
And yeah, I'll kill you. I've killed lots of people. It'll be quick.
Thank you. [She smiles.] I knew it would be as simple as business to you, and I could not think of anyone else to ask.
[Caren's tone and kindness seem genuine. She finds his company agreeable, too.]
...I do not believe you and I hail from remotely the same world, so you won't know what it is when I reference Judas identifying Christ. It won't be quite like that tomorrow, either. But there's someone who's been hiding in the shadows I would like to bring out if I can. Don't get too excited about ending my life just yet.
I've been from a lot of worlds. Enough that I figure there's probably an identical reference to that one, just involving Pan. That's, uh, my cleric buddy's God. Me, I don't believe in Gods, except the ones I've met personally.
[Of course that makes him curious.]
You've still got secrets, huh? Even after I made a big speech. Tell me something. Do you have any idea who killed Chuuya, or Jacopo?
I'm not keeping them on purpose. There are just some things I'm not sure are mine to disclose.
[Her neutral expression falls momentarily. She isn't afraid of dying, right? That risk has always been such an enormous part of her life.]
... I think Monika was right. About Jacopo. She only asked one of them. I also have reason to think they acted as Chuuya and I did: Against a threat they perceived.
And... [She inhales.] Whether he struck the blow or not, I am certain Akira Kurusa is involved in Chuuya's death.
I don't know. I kind of, weirdly, trust Newt. It'd be one thing if he was a Reaper, but - last week, he was suspicious of Yusuke. He was going on about Yusuke being the one who killed Ranpo, and Yusuke being a threat and likely to come after him and Hermann. I offered to go with him to talk to Yusuke and, if we had to, rough him up a little. [Cool, Magnus.] Uh, it's actually a good thing I didn't do that, because I like the kid and he had nothing to do with it. But, you know, he wasn't into that idea at all. Kind of a coward. So it's really hard for me to see him and Hermann, uh, binding someone like Jacopo up and cutting his fingers off.
[That would be a lot even for him.]
...But obviously I didn't trust him enough not to vote for him. As for Akira, care to elaborate?
[Honestly? Newt's an agreeable man. Though she's convinced of his guilt, she nods at what Magnus has to say. Both his faith and his suspicions aren't poorly placed.]
...You're close with Monika too, aren't you? So I think it's all right to say something like this. As for Izaya, I don't really trust him...but I trust him because I don't. He's never been anything but honest about being so a shady individual.
Izaya shared some words of Akira's with us. All of us, me and Chuuya included. They are, for a phrase, quite damning, added to the fact he was confirmed as a Reaper.
I hate to discourage you, but now that you know he is capable of sight, he'd probably dodge you.
[She actually smirks, but it's suddenly very shaky. Beneath the business and the normal restraint and whatever else is happening tonight, it's really sobering to walk towards your own.]
Speaking of him, however: We had an agreement to share relevant information. While some of us were...indisposed by the penguin, I was told, Ranpo was quite vocal about refusing any hint as a reward. [And frankly, since she is about to die in large part due to a purchased hint... Caren was skeptical about their efficacy before, but they seem worth the price in retrospect.] Unfortunately, Madara Mikejima was reportedly behaving the same way, so I interpreted both as suspicious. Ranpo Edogawa's later behavior at trial reinforced my belief that he had no desire to see murders committed by Reapers solved.
Eh. I've fought rogues before. I only have to land a hit once.
[He whistles, though, when she tells the story of choosing Ranpo and Madara. It's a little admiring, but a little not.]
You really saw a shot and went for it, huh? I've had my suspicions about some people for a while, but never wanted to take out somebody I wasn't sure about. It was risky.
Two weeks ago, I would've said it paid off, and I woulda really admired you for taking that chance. But now, I'm not so sure.

Good evening. My I speak with you briefly?

[Though he looks a little, well, unfriendly. He's wary of her.]
sorry my greasy pizza fingers just slapped the keyboard all the wrong ways there

That kid? Ran out of Dahlias and Junkos, huh? Well...tell me something. How'd you guys know about Ranpo? Just Chuuya having a hunch?
